Price dynamics on the RDN and VDR electricity markets of Ukraine in March 2026

In March 2026, the BASE electricity price index on the day-ahead market (DAM) of Ukraine amounted to UAH 7,074.76/MWh, which is 27.7% lower than a month earlier. The weighted average trading price on the DAM for the reporting period was recorded at UAH 7,359.65/MWh (excluding VAT), while on the intraday market (IDM) the same indicator was UAH 6,684.63/MWh (excluding VAT).

March was marked by significant price volatility. The month began with relatively low values. On March 1, the price was UAH 5,122.98/MWh, but a gradual increase with individual peaks was observed. The highest prices were recorded on March 23 — UAH 11,176.85/MWh (excluding VAT) and on March 17 — UAH 9,747.06/MWh. The lowest value was recorded on March 3 — UAH 4,816.89/MWh (excluding VAT).

The total volume of accepted electricity in both market segments in March amounted to 3,331,823.7 MWh. On the DAM, trading activity practically did not change compared to February (–0.34%), while on the VDR a more significant reduction was recorded — by 20.58%. The balance of supply and demand in the two segments developed differently: on the DAM, demand decreased by 2.72%, but supply increased by 12.86%, which caused a decrease in the price index. On the VDR, demand (+3.71%) and supply (+37.69%) increased, with the outstripping increase in supply further restraining prices in this segment.

The March decline in the BASE index generally reflects an increase in generation supply against a background of moderate demand. This trend is typical of the spring season with its inherent increase in electricity generation from renewable sources.
